Cavan–Leitrim Narrow Gauge Railway Line
Belturbet Railway Station
Belturbet Railway Station was the Northern Terminus for the Cavan–Leitrim Narrow Gauge Railway Line which served Belturbet, Ballyconnell, Ballinamore, Dromod, and Arigna.
At Belturbet the line connected with the Great Northern Railway (Ireland) broad-gauge branch to Ballyhaise on the Clones to Cavan line, and at Dromod connected to the Midland Great Western Railway mainline from Dublin to Sligo. The line was extended to Arigna in 1920. Belturbet Station had both Broad gauge 5ft 3” and Narrow Gauge 3ft trains running.
Belturbet was the only station on the Great Northern Railway System to be built entirely of cut-stone. Most of the building is still standing.
The museum and preservation projects are managed by volunteers.
Tours are available.
